New users of the Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) application will be welcomed with explainer videos by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The educational videos will allow new users to quickly understand the capabilities of the application, and start using its various features. The link to the videos will be delivered via SMS to the users. The videos will walk the users through the initial steps of the application, such as registering the SIM card, generating a BHIM passcode, selecting a bank, and generating a UPI pin for making transactions.
MR AP Hota, Managing Director and CEO of NPCI said, "These customer centric initiatives are being taken to encourage consumers to make digital transactions through BHIM instead of using cash. Creating a less-cash society would be easier with the right awareness and education of a customer." According to the NPCI, there have been over 16 million downloads of the BHIM app as of 30 June, 2017, with UPI support for 52 banks.
Along with the videos, the Rs 395 crores referral scheme for encouraging new users of the BHIM app is also operational, and will go on till 14 October 2017. Under the scheme, both the referrer and the referee will get cash incentives once the referee completes a minimum of three transactions totaling at least Rs 50. As part of the scheme, the referrer gets Rs 10 and the referee gets Rs 25.
