Ok Go, a popular band known for their videos, accused Apple of copying one of their videos, according to a Bloomberg BusinessWeek report. The Apple video is called ‘Perspective’ and was shown as part of Tuesday’s with the message that Apple aims to be different, and prefers being the first that matters to simply being the ‘first’. But according to Ok Go, Apple hasn’t been so ‘different’ with this video and has just copied their video for the song The Writing on the Wall. The Apple video is long shot one where the camera goes around a white room with words and shapes taking shape as part of Apple’s Message in the video. Watch the Apple video below:
Essentially the Apple video plays around with the camera’s perspective to create words on the screen. However, Andy Gershon, manager of the band OK Go, says “the band met with Apple in April to pitch that visual concept as a potential video collaboration,” but Apple had rejected this idea. It seems post this rejection that Apple hired 1stAveMachine and the same director that make OK Go’s video to make their own Perspective video. Gershon told BusinessWeek, “The videos speak for themselves, and you can draw your own conclusions.” Watch the Ok Go video below:
The report also points out that this isn’t the first time that an Apple video has been accused of plagiarism in a video. Previously the original iPhone ad had run into trouble for having similar to footage from experimental filmmaker Christian Marclay’s movie ‘Phones.’ Marclay had not given Apple permission to use his film, adds the report. For now Ok Go is looking at legal action but might not get much support even under the law since adapting an idea isn’t actually plagiarism.
