The live, food-centric interactive video platform Nom, will offer users the ability to produce and host their own food shows. Users will be able to watch and interact with all chefs through the Nom channels. The service, which will be promoted at SXSW, allows users to broadcast from their desktop or iOS device respectively. In addition, one can also add a recorded video, links and GIFs to livestreams as well.

The platform has been launched by YouTube co-founder Steve Chen who currently serves the role as Nom’s CTO and former head of engineering at YouTube Vijay Karunamurthy who is now Nom’s CEO. In conversation with Mashable , Karunamurthy said, “People care a lot about the foods that inspire them — they get excited about it. But they want to hear the stories behind that food. And on a personal level, both me and Steve are passionate about food, whether it’s going to an amazing restaurant or cooking at home.” There’s an upcoming feature which will also allow users to use multiple cameras for a broadcast too.

The company is said to have raised $4.7 million in Series A funding, including from celebrities such as “Gangnam Style” artist PSY and Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto and others. The CEO also states, “It’s a shared passion that crosses cultural boundaries and is part of all of lives… we’re excited for people to explore and connect with others.”
