Nokia's Pushing NFC Phones with Angry Birds

Nokia’s pushing NFC using Angry Birds as leverage. They’re hoping this move will give their brand the little kick they need. They’re calling it “Angry Birds Free with Magic”. It has 20 new levels of the original games. Five levels can be accessed on your own but the remaining 15 can only be accessed if you find a friend or someone else with an NFC enabled phone and your phones touch. Here’s the catch, each friend is only able to unlock five levels for you. So you need a friend for the first five, another friend for the next five and a third friend for the third five.

I can already hear you screaming, “Well, what if not that many of us have NFC phones”. Nokia says that you can unlock levels with NFC tags, embedded in certain items and objects. Nokia will give out clues to the locations of these objects.

“Angry Birds Free with Magic” is really a deal with Rovio Mobile and Nokia to push the Nokia C7. The game will come pre-installed in the C7 as part of the Symbian Anna update. It will also be available on all NFC enabled Nokia phones. Rovio is said to be working hard on to create a full version of “Magic”, with more levels, to be available in the Ovi Store.

Paddy does not, we repeat, definitely does NOT belong in the category of Mac-head (yeh right!). She does get excited by her iPhone and her iMac and her iPod Nano and her Macbook and Bali's iPad and her future iHouse (patent pending). Ok, so maybe her head is a little bit forbidden fruit shaped. She likes shooting video (iPhone 4 camera zindabad!) and editing montages (Final Cut Pro zindabad!), whether the scene calls for it or no. In her spare time, she's either kicking it on stage with KB the keyboard or kicking butt at Taekwondo. see more
