Nokia working on future PureView handsets, Lumia devices not in the frame yet

Nokia is stuttering quite a bit as the brand is facing immense competition from the likes of Samsung who have recently dethroned them as the top selling mobile manufacturer in the world. The brand has pulled up their socks and have unleashed onto the world their Lumia branded handsets that are being powered by the Windows Phone operating system. To further strengthen their portfolio, the brand, at the Mobile World Congress event earlier this year took the wraps off the Nokia 808 PureView, a handset, which would please any one who is interested in camera phone photography as it packs a 41 Megapixel sensor. Since, its announcement, there had been a few detractors as the handset runs on the Symbian OS and not the Windows Phone platform with many folks wanting the latter as the featured OS on the device. In a recent report, the brand has stated that it was not possible for them to launch a Lumia PureView handset as the Windows Phone OS is not able to support this technology as of now.

More PureView handsets coming

However, in a recent report by Engadget, though the Lumia PureView handsets may not be on the horizon just yet, Nokia is apparently working on other PureView models. The tech website spoke with Vesa Jutila, Head of Product Marketing of the 808 PureView and he mentioned that Nokia was working on plenty of high-spec digital imaging products. As per the report, the author notes, “While he wasn’t about to be drawn on specifics for any future Lumia-Pureview unions just yet, there were “multiple ways” that Nokia could run with its new imaging jewel. Slimmer models are a possibility, still containing high-end Zeiss optics and Nokia’s oversampling techniques avoiding the need for optical zoom.” The website concluded by stating, “Jutila included one more soupçon of information: future PureView products “would not necessarily have the same 41-megapixel sensor” that we’ve been playing with recently.”
