Nokia had introduced a handful of apps exclusively for its Lumia handsets. Looks like some of these apps are slowly making their way on to the budget Asha series of devices. One such app is the Nokia HERE Transit, that is now available on the latest Asha offerings namely, Asha 500 , Asha 501 and Asha 503 .
HERE Transit lets users plan a journey via public transport. It provides access to scheduled departure/arrival times from public transport companies - if available. It also provides access to timing details for buses as well as trains. The app includes a visual journey options screen, which can display how long your travel may take. If timetable routing isn’t available in your region, then HERE Transit provides an estimated time for your journey. It also takes into account the walking time, as most public transport also involves some amount of walking. Moreover, the app also displays the walking route on your phone screen. Those visiting an unfamiliar destination can take advantage of the Nearby transit feature too.
All three Asha handsets were recently launched in India, but the Here Transit app isn’t available for Indian users yet. Considering the Asha is targeted at emerging markets, especially India, we expect Nokia to introduce the service here soon. However, the company hasn’t mentioned any such development.
Currently, the HERE Transit is available is available for users in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Hungary and Netherlands. The app can be downloaded for free from Nokia Store .
