Nokia has released its latest quarterly financial results, which appear to be quite positive for the company’s Lumia range of Windows Phone handsets. The report reveals that the company has sold about 8.8 million Lumia Windows Phone devices in the last quarter, which is 19% quarter-on-quarter increase largely due to demand for the Lumia 520.
Its overall mobile phones Q3 volumes have also increased by 4 percent quarter-on-quarter to 55.8 million units. This could be because of the aggressive launches in the past few months, especially the Nokia 105, the Asha 501, and the Nokia 210 which was launched with a dedicated WhatsApp or Facebook key in emerging markets like India and Brazil.
Lumia 520…the saving grace
The company recorded an overall net sales for the Q3 at $7.845 billion, which includes both smartphones and feature phones. The operating profit was 118 million euros ($162.4 million). The company had sold 7.4 million Lumia phones in the previous quarter, and made a loss of 115 million euros ($150 million). And if you consider over January to September 2013, Nokia’s total sales fell by 22 percent.
The company appears to be making some headway in the US market too. It shipped 1.4 million phones in North America this summer, which is nearly four times as many as last year.
At its Nokia World event held in Abu Dhabi, the company unveiled three new Asha devices along with its first phablet Lumia 1520 and Lumia 2520 Windows tablet. Recently, the company also launched the Lumia 1020 in the Indian market, and has been aggressively marketing its devices. If it continues its efforts, the company may possibly see some upward trend in the mobile space.
