Nokia has rolled out a major updates for its Asha platform phones Asha 230, Asha 500, Asha 501, Asha 502 and Asha 503, which were recently launched in the country.
Users of Asha phones will now be able to enjoy music thanks to the MixRadio music streaming app. But this feature will not be available on Asha 230. With this service, users will have access to a library of over 90 lakh songs in different Indian languages. Using MixRadio you can also create your very own mixes, share them or even download them. Songs on MixRadio are of a low bit rate which means even if the Wi-Fi or the internet speed is slow, users can listen to songs without much buffering.
Nokia has also updated the camera app on these phones. Asha users can now take a voice-guided selfie. This would be very helpful in taking a perfect selfie. The phone will guide the user so that eventually they can take the selfie from the best possible angle. This should certainly attract youngsters who are a big selfie crowd.
Another exciting update that is now available is the panorama feature. Although a little late to Asha phones there is no denying the fun aspect of taking ultra-wide panoramas.
So where will you store all those selfies and panorama pictures and downloaded songs? Nokia is also throwing in free OneDrive cloud storage for 7GB. This also means that you can free up space on your phone for any new apps that may come up. The best part is that you can access this OneDrive account from any other smartphone or device as well.
The homescreen of Asha phones have undergone changes too. Users will now be able to see birthday notifications from their social network feed on the homescreen itself. If you are an avid Twitter user who tweets regularly then Fastlane will also show how many times your tweet has been re-tweeted.
Last but certainly not the least is the parent control feature that has now been added to Asha phones. Users can now set pin codes or passwords so as to restrict access to browser as well as Nokia store eventually limiting unsafe use of the phone.
These updates are free and are available over-the-air (OTA). You will see a push notification from Nokia on your phone when the update is ready. In case you have not received it or cannot see the notification, simply go to Settings->Phone Update to check.
