Nokia Reveals Tracker for Misplaced Items, Handset

For those of us who have a knack of losing or misplacing things like keys etc., the techies at Nokia’s research center have just the device that will put us at ease. The Nokia Locate Sensor, that was revealed at this year’s CES, is a small unassuming device that can be tethered to anything that users would have a tendency to misplace. This sensor device is coupled with a corresponding Symbian application for a handset that will enable the user to locate an item that it’s attached to.

The application provides directions and also an approximate distance to the item with the sensor. The application can accommodate up to a 100 items. Each senor is fitted with a small battery that the company claims can run for up to 18 months before needing to be replaced. The sensors and handset application have a range of up to 100 meters.

The Nokia Locate Sensor set up is also fully functional the other way around – by using just the sensor, users will be able to find a misplaced handset with the application. The device is capable of disabling the device in case it’s over 3 meters away from your person and then enabling again when in range as a security option.

As of now the device that was showcased at CES is still a prototype but word is that Nokia should have it out anytime soon. Stay Tuned.
