The speculation is finally over. Nokia’s PureView 808 phone which makes its worldwide debut in India will cost Rs 29,999 and is available on the Nokia store reports NDTV.
The smartphone is currently available in the black colour, with no word on the release of other colour options.
The official announcement on the price of the phone finally puts to rest a slew of rumors over the price of the phone. NDTV initially announced that the phone would cost Rs 29,999 but Nokia officials rubbished the report giving rise to speculation that it would actually cost much more.

“We outsource certain chores, and for that we have to give price related information. So, in such cases, we furnish a dummy price, and not the actual (true) price. In this case also (the one mentioned in the source code), Rs 29,999 is a dummy price and the 808 Pureview will not be available for this price,” a spokesman for Nokia said.
The theory that the phone would cost more was further corroborated when online retail website “buytheprice.com” began taking pre-orders for the phone for Rs 32,000 (Rs 33,999 being the stated MRP).
Nokia 808 PureView won accolades and awards at the Mobile Phone Convention in Barcelona earlier this year and is equipped with PureView technology which allows it to capture really sharp images. The phone is equipped with a 41 megapixel camera. According to Nokia’s press release the first markets to begin selling the Nokia 808 PureView include Russia and India.
The smartphone comes with a large, high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor camera, powered by high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology.
The release states, that at high-resolution 38 megapixels maximum, the phone will allow users to capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards. This means that it’s possible to shoot professional images that were only possible with a DSLR with the smartphone. It also allows users to make the best of low-light conditions while taking pictures with their phone.
The release also mentions the phone’s video and sound capabilities.
