Nokia Lumia ads dis the phone you own

Nokia has been leaving no stone unturned in promoting their latest Lumia series. Remember the sky party hosted by Nokia India? The company now have gone a step ahead and decided to make you feel dumb about the phone (assuming most of us use Android and iOS devices) you already own. The Finnish phone maker now says that iPhones and Androids are unfinished beta devices with flaws, so eventually their owners are dumb. This has been suggested in the new video ads to sell Nokia. And we thought only Pepsi and Coke engage in ad wars.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Nokia calls the campaign – The Smartphone beta Test, which involves a series of videos showing some decision-makers discussing the flaws of unnamed smartphones. Obviously they won’t show the iPhone or Android device directly, but the images of the Google and Apple devices are blurred and shown at the start of each ad. While a voice in the background says – “If you ever thought that maybe your smartphone wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, that’s because it wasn’t,” says a deep-voiced narrator.

One video shows that holding the iPhone in a certain way results in signal loss, which was an issue that several users faced after the launch of the iPhone 4 about two years ago. Another ad shows how difficult it is to read screens in sunlight. One of the ad shows people discussing that it’s fine selling fragile phones, because it’s only when these phones break that people will buy new ones quickly. Just above the SmartphoneBetaTest.com is a timer counting down the debut of the Lumia 900, which is expected to release on April 8 through AT&T.

Now, we know Nokia has been striving for a good comeback, which it did have, to a certain extent with the Lumia series and a handful of other phone launches in India. But alluring iPhone and Android users to ditch their phones for a Lumia could be a tad difficult task, at least now. While Nokia faced a slump period, Android and iOS were ready with their newer versions to attract users. While iPhone caters to a set of loyal users, which has been increasing by the day, Android has the capability to reach all segments of society from entry-level users to advanced smartphone users.
