Microsoft’s takeover of iconic brand Nokia was probably one of the most disappointing acquisitions in the smartphone history. Not only were there huge losses, but the Finnish company completely went out of business. Even the brand name disappeared.
This was followed by a number of leaks and rumours which suggested that Nokia will make a comeback in Android flavour. However, we have been disappointed every time as there has been no-show so far.
Earlier this year, Microsoft had come to an agreement to sell its entry level smartphone devices to a FIH Mobile Ltd which is a subsidiary of Foxconn Technology Group and HMD Global. HMD had acquired the rights to use the Nokia brand on its products for over a period of 10 years. The official statement said that the first device might release around Q4 2016.
It’s the beginning of Q4 now and right on time a device named Nokia D1C has appeared on Geekbench . The handset seems to be running on Android 7.0 Nougat and the benchmark app was run a few times. Scores show 628 points in single-core and 3229 in multi-threaded loads. This isn’t exactly high-end, which is obviously due to the low-end octa-core Snapdragon 430 SoC, clocked at 1.4 GHz, with Adreno 505 GPU and 3GB of RAM. Apart from these details, nothing much is known yet.
