Nokia announces the Nokia City Lens PDD event

Nokia is announcing a new event called the Nokia City Lens PDD (Point. Discover. Do.). Nokia City Lens PDD invites young people between 21 and 35 years of age to join the campaign by answering multiple-choice, situational questions over ten days. The contest will be judged by a jury comprising of Bollywood actor Esha Gupta and Nokia representatives. Three winners, chosen on the basis of their spontaneity, will win the opportunity to party all night, for three nights across three different metros – all expenses paid. During this phase, titled the City Lens Night Offs, the three winners will each be armed with only the latest Nokia Lumia 900 and the Nokia City Lens app. No plans, no agenda, all they will have to do is go with the flow, pick and “point” their Lumia 900 devices, “discover” exciting new places with Nokia City Lens and “do” their thing. To add to the excitement, they will be joined by Esha Gupta in one Night Off. Additionally, audiences will be prompted to follow their favourite contestants online and vote for them and the most voted for contestant will take home a Nokia Lumia 900 and other Nokia goodies.

The Nokia City Lens on a Lumia 900

Exclusive to Nokia Lumia and Nokia smart devices, Nokia City Lens is a new augmented reality overlay that works with the camera to help you discover the city around you and what it has to offer. All you need to do is launch the app and hold your device up and voila! An augmented reality app, City Lens overlays information about restaurants, shops, hotels and more on the surface of buildings for the most intuitive way to explore your surroundings. You can also search for places according to genres and activities that interest you. Go a step further and get details, read reviews of restaurants and hotels. With one tap, you can make a reservation or navigate to the location via turn-by-turn walking map.  All you need to do is Point. Discover and Do.

Launching the campaign, V Ramnath, Director Sales, Nokia India said, “Nokia City Lens is a unique, one-of-its kind augmented reality application from Nokia’s Location Service bouquet – it allows you to sense the world around you and discover places by simply holding up your smartphone instead of having to perform web searches. It’s simple, it’s spontaneous. With Nokia City Lens PDD, we are invoking the spontaneity that lies within each one of us, inviting consumers to compete in having the most fun. The best of adventures are the unplanned ones and in PDD, there will be only one rule: no planning.”

Present at the event, Bollywood actor Esha Gupta said, “Nokia City Lens is a great application that allows you to sense and discover your surroundings in fun and easy way. The essence of Nokia City Lens PDD is spontaneity. Winners will later be asked to live it up one night spontaneously via City Lens and I look forward to joining the adventure with them. I can’t wait to PDD with Nokia City Lens.”

The Nokia Lumia 900 was recently launched in India with a price tag of Rs. 32,999. The Rs 32,999 price tag seems a bit heavy for a Windows Phone 7 device, especially one that’s never going to get Windows Phone 8. We also think the Lumia 900 is a bit out of date, especially with the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 being unveiled.

Here is a quick look at the highlighted features of the Nokia Lumia 900:

  • 4.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen with ClearBlack technology
  • GPRS, HSPA, EDGE,HSUPA, GSM, HSDPA, LTE, WDCMA, Wi-Fi, DLNA
  • GPS and A-GPS support
  • Bluetooth v2.1 with EDR
  • 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, VGA front facing camera
  • 512MB RAM, 16GB internal memory

The entries for Nokia City Lens PDD are open from September 25 to October 2. Participants have to be between 21 to 35 years old. To take part, simply go to the Nokia City Lens PDD website and answer multiple choice questions over ten days. Three winners will be announced in early October.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
