Nokia Announces the Developers-only MeeGo Based N950

We had seen and heard a lot about a device called the “N9”, but as you know the Lankku (the original N9) is something different. The device that was rumoured to be the N9 is actually the N950. Not that we did not hear about it earlier, just that the news for the developers-only device was on a low.

For the developers only

Now the N950 is not meant to be sold commercially. Rather, this is specifically meant for developers of the MeeGo platform, which Nokia intends to push forward. The smartphone has some decent specifications to boast of. It runs on a 1 GHz processor and if you’ve not already got the OS, it will be running on MeeGo. Here’s a closer look under the hood:

• 4-inch capacitive touchscreen with 480 x 854 pixels
• Wi-Fi, GPS with A-GPS support
• Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and EDR
• 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash
• Memory expandable to 32 GB
• 3.5 mm audio jack

The handset also has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and the camera has features like Geo-tagging, face detection and touch-focus. The smartphone also supports media formats like MP3, WAV, eAAC+, WMA, FLAC for the audio and MP4, H.264, H.263 and WMV for video.

Looking at the smartphone, the N950 looks more like an N8 with a slide-out keyboard like the E5. That’s about it for the specifications of this handset.
