New Nokia 3310 listed for Rs 3,899 in India by retailer, but HMD Global tells us that the listing is false

The much-anticipated remake of the fabled Nokia 3310 has been listed by a retailer in India at a price of Rs 3,899. The retailer claims that the device will be available for pre-order from 5 May and that it will ship on 17 May. HMD Global who is making the phone, however, tells us that this is not true.

There’s been a flurry of news surrounding the upcoming feature phone, primarily because a number of European retailers listed the device as going on sale from 28 April onwards.

However, the owners of the Nokia brand name, HMD Global, have stated that all such retail listings are false. They have not revealed any plans to ship the device.

The listing in India appeared on retailer OnlyMobile’s website and it lists the device as “Coming Soon” at a price of Rs 3,899. Colour options include Warm Red, Dark Blue, Yellow and Grey.

A Nokia spokesperson we spoke to said that all such listings are unofficial and that HMD hasn’t released a timeline for the same.

In a statement issued to Nokia Power User, Nokia said, “We haven’t listed 3310 for sale on any website. It is too premature to comment. We are still working through some of our plans.”

We received the following statement from Nokia on the same, “We know there is keen interest in when the Nokia 3310 will be available. We will be making announcements in the coming weeks regarding availability and price. Stay tuned for more…”

The Nokia 3310 debuted at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona. Its design builds on the aesthetic of the original 3310, but the hardware gets a significant upgrade.

Gone is the monochrome LCD screen of the original. Taking its place is a 2.4-inch 262k colour QVGA display with a DPI of 167.

Another new feature is a rear camera, which is a 2 MP unit.

The phone only supports the GSM 900/1800 MHz bands and connectivity is limited to 2.5G speeds.

While onboard memory is very limited, you can expand it by up to 32 GB via a microSD card.

The 1,200 mAh Li-ion battery is expected to provide a staggering 22 hours of talk time and up to 31 days of standby time.
