The Nokia 1 was first announced at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Spain and a few months later, it has now been launched in India at a best buy price of Rs 5,499.


HMD Global has finally launched India's first Android Oreo Go edition-powered smartphone and it is called the Nokia 1. The device was first announced at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Spain and a few months later, it has now been launched in India at a best buy price of Rs 5,499.

The smartphone features a rather retro-looking design that looks closer to the Nokia 3310 with a silver ring that borders the display's screen.

The Nokia 1 also comes with plastic Xpress-on covers, like the older feature phones and can be swapped and given a make-over on the move, making device personalisation possible with the polycarbonate shells.

The Nokia 1 comes with 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS display which Nokia claims is power efficient. Inside, there is a MediaTek MT6737M quad-core SoC clocked at 1.1 GHz. The device features 1 GB of RAM along with 8 GB of internal storage and microSD card support (up to 128 GB).

Nokia offers a 5 MP fixed-focus primary camera with an LED flash and a 2 MP fixed focus camera on the front for selfies.

Connectivity options include, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/AGPS, Bluetooth 4.2, a micro USB 2.0 port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There are the usual array of sensors which include a proximity sensor, ambient light sensor and a g-sensor. The humble-looking device also features an FM radio.

Powering all of the above is a 2,150 mAh battery that for once, is removable and user-replaceable.

The handset measures 133.6x67.78x9.5 mm.


Nokia claims that device can deliver a maximum talk time of up to 9 hours and offers a maximum standby time of up to 15 days.

The Nokia 1 will be available in Warm Red and Dark Blue and will go up for sale starting 28 March, 2018. The Xpress-on covers in Azure Grey, yellow and pink will be sold separately and will go on sale starting April, 2018 at a retail price of Rs 450 each.

There are cashback offers from Jio worth Rs 2,200 bringing down the effective price of the Nokia 1 to Rs 3,299. With the Jio offer, the customer also gets 60 GB of additional data.

HMD will also provide a Nokia 1 users with complimentary 12 month Accidental Damage Insurance by Servify on opening of a Kotak 811 savings account and activating it with an initial deposit if Rs 1,000 during the introductory period. Nokia 1 buyers will also get 20 percent off on booking their first ride via redBUs.
