 "'Noah', the tsunami rescue pod takes shape in Japan")
The sight of one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, Japan bowing down to nature’s fury sent shivers down the spine of the rest of the world. As the raging waters continued to topple and destroy everything that came in its way, it seemed as if nothing could get the better of the tsunami. Months later, while many are still struggling to get their lives back, a certain Japanese entrepreneur has found a way to survive should another disaster strike.

Shoji Tanaka may have been an ordinary man till the March 11, 2011 tragedy struck, but now, he has the tsunami rescue pod to his credit. The bright yellow pod, aptly called Noah - after the Biblical story - has been built to safely keep the ones seated inside afloat till they reach a safe location. According to the maker, Noah is capable of maintaining itself not only during a tsunami, but also during an earthquake, which usually precedes a tsunami. For starters, the report states that Noah has been built using Fiber Reinforced Plastic, which according to its inventor is stronger, but lighter than steel. The report also states that the bright yellow color on its body, too holds significance as it will signal rescuers. The pod, itself, although is not very spacious with 4 feet in diameter, comes with one hatch, one glass window and two holes for drainage and ventilation. While there is nothing very fancy about Noah, it reportedly does all the key tasks, i.e. keep water out, keep its occupants afloat and protect them from runaway debris.

Mr. Tanaka is already flooded with orders that are coming to him from families, waterfront businesses and fishermen. The Noah is being priced between 3,800 and 4,500 U.S. dollars.
