No ICS for HTC Desire HD

In what could come as a big disappointment to those who had been looking forward to this development, it has been revealed that HTC’s Desire HD smartphone will not get the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. In an official blog post, HTC detailed further on its decision. It adds, “After extensive testing, we’ve determined that the current version of HTC Sense with Android provides customers with the best experience on the HTC Desire HD. When we consider new versions of software, we weigh a number of factors, but ultimately the customer experience on the product is the deciding factor. We apologize for any confusion this change may have caused our customers.”

ICS upgrade canceled.

The Desire HD has been among the first few models by HTC to feature the speaker grill bar and curved edges. Launched in 2010, the Desire HD smartphone runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and is fuelled by 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor and comes with 768 MB of RAM. It sports an 8MP camera with dual LED flash and also offers 720p recording.

Here’s a detailed look at the specifications of the HTC Desire HD:

• 4.3-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution
• 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
• GPS with A-GPS support
• Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and USB 2.0
• 8MP camera with dual LED flash,720p video recording 
• Stereo FM radio with RDS
• Memory expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card

In mid-March this year, we had reported about the Desire HD that online store seller, Saholic priced it at a cool Rs.18,990. The Desire HD, interestingly, back then had featured on HTC’s 16 devices to receive the ICS update in the future. Now, however, as per the latest confirmation from the company, that isn’t happening.
