Nikon announces D610 full-frame DSLR camera

Nikon has finally announced the D610, successor to the much-troubled D600 released last year. Advanced photographers will be glad to know that the camera is priced round about the same as the D600.

The Nikon D610 sports a 24.3MP FX-format (35.9 x 24mm) CMOS sensor and a wide ISO range goes from 100 to 6,400 (25,600, Hi-2), for an improved low light performance. The camera comes with a 39-point AF system that will help users capture moving subjects better.

The system will also use Nikon’s 3D Color Matrix Metering II 2016 pixel RGB Sensor along with the Scene Recognition System to analyse the scene and adjust exposure, white balance and focus. The D610 will utilize nine cross-type sensors, seven of which retain AF ability up to f/8, a feature that will be most useful to photographers who have to rely on teleconverters for maximum distance.

Nikon says that the D610 has an improved Automatic White Balance algorithm and a new shutter mechanism for a faster frame rate. Users will be able to capture scenes at a continuous shooting rate of 6 fps. The camera also has a Quiet Continuous shutter mode that will let you shoot discreetly at up to 3 fps. The camera will have a wide optical viewfinder that offers 100 percent coverage. The 3.2-inch LCD screen on the D610 has 921K dot resolution.

The camera will feature advanced modes such as the Time Lapse Mode to help enthusiasts experiment with their skills. It will be possible to capture full HD videos in a variety of frame rates and it can also feed 100 percent full screen, uncompressed videos via HDMI cable to external devices. The camera also sports two SD memory card slots as well as high-capacity SDXC and UHS cards.

As expected, the Nikon D610 will have dust and moisture resistance of the same caliber as the D800 and is completely sealed and gasketed. The top and rear covers of the camera are made of magnesium alloy for maximum durability, while the shutter unit is apparently tested to 1,50,000 cycles.

The camera is compatible with a wide variety of NIKKOR Lenses as well as Nikon’s Creative Lighting System. The D610 can also act as a Commander to control up to two groups of speedlights.

The Nikon D610 pretty much looks like a patched up release of last years D600 that faced a lot of criticism for some flaws as well as a major dust speck issue that hampered its quality.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Users will be a little disappointed because of the lack of GPS and Wi-Fi in the camera but it still will be one of Nikon’s most affordable small format full frame camera. The Nikon D610 will be available in late October for Rs 1,29,950 for the body only and for Rs 1,57,950 with the 24-85mm VR lens kit.
