Nike has just appointed Apple CEO Tim Cook as the lead independent director. The move has been planned for a year, after anticipating the retirement of Nike Chairman Phil Knight. Mark Parker was appointed as Chairman and CEO. Mark Parker was the CEO of Nike since 2006. Phil Knight continues at Nike in a modified role of Phil Knight. He has a standing invitation to Nike Board Meetings, and will continue to be involved with the company.
Tim Cook was a director on the Board of Directors of Nike from 2005. He was appointed the Lead Independent Director at Nike. The updated status appeared in the Nike website , under the Board of Directors listing. The move is meant to bring in external influence on the company , as the Chairman of the board and the CEO are the same person, Mark Parker, according to Engadget. In the Board of Directors, Tim Cook serves as the Chairman of the Compensation Committee , as well as a member of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, according to Apple Insider.
