Nexus 6 tear down: As easy to repair as the iPhone 6

Just like most flagships from popular phone makers, Nexus 6 has finally reached iFxit’s tear down lab. It has emerged with a good repairability score of 7 out of 10, which is at par with the iPhone 6 , but a tad lower than last year’s Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 had bagged an 8 out of 10 making it one of the easiest phone to repair while the iPhone 5 was lagging at 6 out of 10.

During the tear down, iFixit found components from various manufacturers such 3GB RAM from SK Hynix, Qualcomm processor and flash storage from SandDisk. Qualcomm also manages the device’s modem and power management.

Unlike most other phones, you won’t find a lot of adhesive or clips in the Motorola-built Google flagship. This means, there is less scope for damage during repair. Moreover, it has a single kind of screw that makes it easy to repair. iFixit says that replacing cameras, buttons, or the headphone jack should not be a problem.

On the flip side, one will find some components like vibrator, SIM slot, speaker and USB port soldered to the motherboard, which makes them extremely difficult to remove. “The digitizer is fused to the display, increasing repair costs for a cracked screen, but it is easy to get to the bare display assembly,” adds iFixit report.
