Google released its latest flagship phone, the Nexus 5 manufactured by LG late on Thursday night. And by sheer coincidence, the phone has been launched on the same day that Apple’s flagship iPhone 5s is coming to India. In short, it is the ultimate Google vs Apple battle. Apple’s iPhone is of course the costlier device. It is priced at Rs 41,900 for the the 16GB model, while the 16 GB Nexus 5 will cost Rs 28,999.
But apart from price (where the Nexus clearly wins out), how do the two devices do against each other on other specs? Here’s a quick look:
Screen and display:
The Nexus 5 has a 5-inch full HD IPS screen, with a resolution 1,920x1,080 pixels translating to 445ppi (Or pixels per inch). The device also comes with Gorilla Glass 3, which is the latest version of the damage resistant screen technology.
The iPhone 5s has a 4-inch Retina Display screen, with a resolution of 1,136x640 pixels which translates to 326ppi (pixels per inch). The iPhone 5 screen is pretty tough, but is not as tough as a Gorilla Glass. That said however, you will have to work pretty hard to scratch it.

Operating system
This will really depend on whether you consider yourself to be an Apple person or an Android person since both devices come with the latest versions of their operating systems. The iPhone 5s ships with iOS 7 while the Nexus 5 comes with the newly released Android 4.4 or KitKat. To find out more about iOS 7 click here and for more on Android KitKat click here .
Camera
Both devices have 8 MP rear cameras. However the iPhone 5s also comes with 1080p full HD video. In terms of front camera, the Nexus 5 is slightly ahead. The device sports a 1.3-megapixel camera while the iPhone 5s has a 1.2 MP camera.
Speed
The Nexus 5 comes with a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 which is the latest and most powerful processor in the Snapdragon family. This is also used by a number of new Android devices like the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. The iPhone has A7 (64-bit) with M7 motion processor. The Apple processor has however, been blowing the competition out of the water in terms of speed so far. So we’re more inclined to lean towards the iPhone here.
Connectivity
Both devices have 4G LTE, the latest version of Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. However the Apple device does not have Near Field Communication (NFC) like the Nexus. (NFC is a set of standards for smartphones and similar devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into close proximity, usually no more than a few inches.) Apple has never been a fan of the technology, pointedly leaving it out of all its devices. Instead it has a fingerprint scanner.
Wireless charging
The Nexus has wireless charging, but the iPhone does not.
