It has been a long wait for India, but the Google Nexus 4 is finally available in the country for about Rs 25,999. The flagship smartphone is now officially available in the country through official channels and it looks like it’s been LG who has taken the initiative.

“LG Electronics is pleased to partner Google on the release of the Nexus 4 in India,” said Soon Kwon, Managing Director, LG Electronics India. “We added the best of our talent to our strength, and the result is a feature-packed smartphone that packs superb hardware under a slim hood,” he added.

The company has currently announced details only about the 16GB variant of Nexus 4; there has been no word on the model that has 8GB of internal storage. The latter model will be priced at least a few thousand rupees cheaper if and when it does launch in India.

The reason behind no LTE

It’s officially here!

LG has said that the handset will be available at selected LG exclusive brand shops, multi-brand outlets and specialty stores across India for Rs 25,999. Since this is an LG initiative, the handset has not shown up on the Play Store for India and chances that it will be displayed on the Google Store are slim. Currently, the Store sells Nexus 7 tablets only.

Interestingly, the phone turned up online for pre-orders for Rs. 25,990 yesterday. While Flipkart said that it would begin shipping at the end of this month, Infibeam claimed it would start shipping in two to three days.

Thje Nexus 4 has been available unofficially in India ever since it was launched, with its price coming down in recent months. Last we checked, the phone was priced at around the Rs 24,000 mark in the grey market, which would actually be cheaper than the price on the pre-order listing as well as LG’s official pricing. However, it must be noted that buyers would not have got a bill and warranty card along at the grey market.
