Next Android Wear update to bring support for Wi-Fi, gesture control

Among the long list of features showcased for the Apple Watch, one of the highlights is support for Bluetooth as well as Wi-Fi, something that has been missing in most watches. But this could be about to change soon. To keep up with its arch rival in the wearable space, Google plans to enable Wi-Fi and gestures with its next Android Wear update, a source revealed to TheVerge . This means features like Google Now and notification alerts will work even without Bluetooth connection, says the report. Some Android watches come with the built-in Wi-Fi feature so this software update could help them enable the feature. Along with Wi-Fi, the new update will also introduce gesture control, which will allow users to scroll through notifications just by flicking their wrist instead of swiping on the display. The update also brings some tweaks to the UI, making it easy to access both Android Wear applications and contacts. Currently, finding an app means digging into the menu or with spoken commands. It is still unclear if Google will add Android Wear support for iOS. Needless to say, vice versa is quite unlikely. With this move, Google could expand its market and also attract some iPhone users. Finally, Apple has disclosed all the remaining information about the Watch that is all set to hit stores next month. Here’s everything you need to know about the Apple Watch. Though India is not among the list of countries to get the Watch next month, it is likely to launch here by June-July for a price over Rs 30,000 .
