Google has released the SDK for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, including the new version of the SDK tool and emulator, and a revamped and much more robust Native Development Kit. These tools help developers create and test apps in a variety of languages, and Google hopes that developers will use them to create great apps for Android devices.
The Nexus 7 is one of the first devices to use jelly Bean, and in a blog post, Google engineer Nick Butcher asks devs to update their apps for the new high-definition 7-inch screen. Butcher says, “While most applications will run just fine on Nexus 7, who wants their app to be just fine?”
According to research done by Android’s Developer site, most Android phones are still running version 2.3 Gingerbread, with only 10.9 percent running 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich almost eight months after the initial release. Without a carrier-mandated update schedule, it will be updated to newer versions of Android faster than most devices.
The new SDK is out for Jelly Bean
The Google Nexus 7 tablet was announced at Google I/O 2012. Google has added a ton of high-end hardware to the mix and has kept the price down to a minimum by pricing the 8 GB base model at $199. The tablet, manufactured by ASUS, is not just designed to take on Apple’s highly successful iPad, but will also pose a threat to the Amazon Kindle Fire, and google aims to tackle the competition with its pricing strategy. The Nexus 7 is available in two storage capacities, 8GB and 16GB, and has been priced at $199 and $249 respectively.
As far as connectivity is concerned, there have been rumours that the tablet would not come with 3G connectivity, in order to keep the price to a minimum, and Google has done just that. The connectivity options found on Google’s flagship tablet include Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, and NFC capabilities. The Nexus 7 also comes with Google Wallet pre-installed. As for the camera featured here, the tablet sports only a front facing camera that can be used for video calls. The interesting thing is that this camera can shoot 720p HD videos. When it comes to size, the tablet measures 198.5 x 120 x 10.5 mm, sports a 7-inch screen, and weighs 340g. These dimensions allow it to go toe-to-toe with the Amazon Kindle Fire.
The Nexus 7 was recently found to be on sale on shopping sites such as Indiatimes Shopping, which lists the tablet in stock for Rs. 16,952, and eBay, which has a seller who ships the tablet to India within 14 days. The seller on eBay has priced the tablet at Rs. 17,690 for the 8GB model, which converts to roughly $321. To remind you, Google’s pricing was $199.
