New Tomb Raider trailer gives us a look at the combat and weapons

Crystal Dynamics has released the latest video in its Guide to Survival series of trailers for the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot. This time around, the video gives us a look at the combat of the game, how it works with the weapons, and how to upgrade weapons and get new skills at the basecamp.

Lara has three options in any situation when confronted by an enemy. She can either go the stealth route and try to sneak around while picking off enemies with the silent-but-deadly bow, or she can go toe-to-toe with enemies using melee weapons like the pickaxe, or she can just run in guns blazing and murder every single enemy.

You can level up skills in different weapons, gaining new skills, as well as new ways to use the aforementioned weapons. One major example of learning new skills is learning how to use the pickaxe to execute a very messy backstab attack that is sure to kill enemies in one hit.

Lara can also use her environment to gain advantages, such as shooting a lantern to start a fire, or throwing a lantern to start a fire. You can also get different kinds of arrows for the bow, like arrows with a rope attached to it to turn it into a makeshift grappling hook, or a fire arrow that lets you cause explosions and fires. If push comes to shove, Lara can also use her arrow to perform an unsuccessful tracheostomy by sticking the arrow into an enemy’s throat.

A lot of times, the weapons that Lara finds are in poor condition. She then has to go around scavenging parts to make the weapons as good as new, and eventually, much better than new. This is basically meant to be an incentive to explore the world more than the story requires.

“Hmm… nothing suspicious going on here…”

Some of the enhanced features include full integration with Steamworks, increased detail tessellation, improved SSAO and post-filter effects, and very high resolution textures, shadows and cloths.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
