As announced at the **CES earlier this month** , the improved steel variant of the Pebble smartwatch has started shipping. The plastic-built first version set the standard for crowd-sourced devices with a funding of $10 million. Unlike the original model, the new Pebble is built of stainless steel. It is available in matte black and brushed steel for $249 (approximately Rs 15,450). The company has two shipping options and delivers outside the US too, so if you have been eyeing a Pebble Steel in India, you are in luck. Featuring the same e-paper display that made the original a long-lasting device, the Pebble Steel is rated 5 to 7 days of battery life and has a waterproof design. The display has Gorilla Glass protection along with an anti-fingerprint coating. It’s everything we wanted to see in the next-generation avatar. This one is sleeker too and sports a more sophisticated look, indicating that Pebble has grown up slightly. Built of CNC-machined stainless steel, it will be available in brushed stainless and black matte. The device supports software and apps from the original model. The company lets you choose from several watch face designs. Weighing 56 grams - 50 percent heavier than the plastic variant - the device is compatible with iOS as well as Android devices. The company had recently launched a new app store for the wearable. It had asked developers to begin submitting apps from January 9. Pebble had also announced partnerships with Pandora, ESPN, and Mercedes-Benz to bring app support.
