New LG video hints at L, F, V and G smartphones

We’re still days away from the biggie event in Barcelona (read MWC 2013), but it looks like the participants are dropping hints already. This time, we’re talking about LG and the company has, in a rather “loud” trailer, dropped some hints on what it has in store for the event.

The video, titled “Closer to Barcelona”, begins on an eerie note thanks to the background score and from there on, the company goes on to highlight a bunch of alphabets – “L” in THE STYLE, “F” in THE FREEDOM, “V” in THE VIEW, “G” in THE GREATNESS – indicating that these (L, F, V and G) may be the upcoming phones that it plans to show around at MWC 2013. What is also interesting is that LG has used the word TAG on two ocassions in the video, leading us to believe that we may be looking at NFC technology too.

Only a few days ago did LG announce new phones in its Optimus L Series II line-up. With more than 10 million Optimus L Series phones sold in the first 10 months, LG looks to continue this momentum with the L Series II.

The Optimus L Series II will follow the same design philosophy as that of the previous phones in the L series, but with some new design elements, including laser-cut contours, a radiant rear design and LED lighting on the home button.

The L Series II also offers an expanded set of features including those unique to LG smartphones such as QuickMemo, Quick Button and Safety Care. QuickMemo allows users to capture and share handwritten ideas with others using just a fingertip. Quick Button enables customers to personalise a hotkey to launch any app such as the camera, browser, music player or even QuickMemo. Safety Care offers three options – Emergency Call Forwarding, Phone Non-Usage Notice and My Location Notice – which can be programmed to contact someone in case of an emergency.

The phones will be using high-resolution IPS displays and will have higher capacity batteries. There will also be dual-SIM versions of the Optimus L Series II smartphones.

A day later, LG officially announced its new phone, the LG Optimus G Pro. While we already know a lot about the phone already thanks to leaks, LG hasn’t officially revealed some of the specifications. The phone does sport a similar pattern on its back panel as that of the LG Optimus G and the Nexus 4, which the company calls a “2.5D effect”.

LG has also revealed that the phone will have a 5.5-inch screen with a full HD 1080p resolution. It will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. The company hasn’t revealed any of the other specs of the handset. The phone is set to be launched in Korea this month, and will eventually make it to the rest of the world.

We got a look at the device just last week through a couple of leaked pictures. One of the images shows the phone while the other one reveals its specs through an internal training document. The LG’s 2013 flagship Optimus G Pro will go up against the likes of the Sony Xperia Z, the upcoming HTC M7 and the Galaxy S4. So it naturally brings the some of the best hardware to the dogfight.

The leaked pictures show that the LG Optimus G Pro will have a 5.5-inch, 1920 x 1080 Full HD IPS-LCD screen. That should be enough to grab attention, but LG has really gone the whole hog with this one. Also featured in the Optimus G Pro is the 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, a 4G LTE radio, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter, both of which are capable of recording 1080p video, just like on its 5-inch predecessor.
