New lease on life? Apple pushes new iOS 17 update to fix iPhone 15 Pro overheating issues

Apple Inc. has launched a software update on Wednesday to rectify overheating problems that affected a portion of initial purchasers of the iPhone 15 Pro series. This update, designated as iOS 17.0.3, is accessible as an over-the-air remedy within the software update section of the iPhone’s settings application. According to the release notes, the update includes ‘significant bug fixes, security enhancements, and resolves an issue that could result in the iPhone running hotter than expected.’ Additionally, this update has been made available for older iPhone models and iPads. Several early adopters of the iPhone 15 Pro had raised concerns regarding their devices running unusually hot. Apple attributed this issue to faulty code within specific apps, including Uber, Instagram, and the Asphalt 9 racing game, in conjunction with a software glitch within the device itself. The company pointed out that the initial device setup process could potentially overstrain the processor, leading to overheating. Contrary to speculations, the company has affirmed that the software update will not result in a slowdown of the iPhone 15 Pro’s new A17 Pro chip. Earlier, in a statement provided to CNET, Apple acknowledged that they have identified specific factors that may lead to the iPhone 15 running at temperatures higher than anticipated. The tech giant clarified that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro might exhibit increased warmth during initial setup or restoration, primarily due to heightened background processes. Furthermore, Apple had pointed out that a bug within iOS 17, as well as updates from third-party applications, could contribute to the overheating issue. Notably, apps such as Instagram and Uber have been implicated in causing certain problems. Apple had assured users that an upcoming software update will not only address the iOS 17 bug but also effectively resolve the heating concern, all while maintaining the performance quality of the iPhone 15 Pro models. In their statement to CNET, Apple had noted, “The device may exhibit elevated temperatures during the initial days after setup or restoration, owing to heightened background processes. We have also identified a bug within iOS 17 that affects select users and are actively working on a solution through a forthcoming software update. Additionally, we are collaborating with third-party app developers to rectify recent updates that have led to system overloads, with fixes currently being rolled out.”
