New iMessage bug latest in growing list of minor issues in iOS 7

Apple’s new iOS 7 seems to run up against another technical snag. Users are now turning to the company’s Support Communities as well as other forums to report an apparent iMessage bug. The bug reportedly causes messages to go unsent, unreceived or sent as a text on a variety of iPhones models running iOS 7, according to MacRumours.

There are also other complaints where users are saying that iMessages are not being converted to SMS texts, as would be the case if Apple’s servers were down, and are simply not being sent. While referring to a thread on the support forum of the source, we found that some of the complaints went as far back as September 18, the day Apple formally released the latest OS to the public.

The greater frequency of posts in the last few days suggests that the issue has been cropping up more frequently since the roll out of the most recent iOS 7.0.2 update last week. A solution for this problem seems to have been stumbled upon, though. Users have been able to successfully bypass this problem by first disabling iMessage in Settings. You will then have to go to the Messages options and reset the iPhone’s Network Settings under the Settings menu. Once that is done, users will have to go to the General menu, reset and then re-enable iMessage.

New iMessage bug may be the latest in the growing list of minor issues plaguing iOS 7 users

The source was also able to corroborate the success of this method. Other variations of the method include shutting down the handset for three to five minutes, but there has been no reported success for this technique. The extent to which the iMessage problem extends is still unknown.

The reported bug is the latest in the growing list of minor issues users are coming across since the launch of iOS 7 less than two weeks ago. You can have a look at our review of the new iOS. In response to earlier complaints, the company rolled out two updates. The first was a day-one patch that took care of the iPhone 5s Touch ID sensor while the second dealt with a lock screen passcode bypass bug.
