Humble Bundle has kicked off a new bundle, but this time, it’s not for games. Instead, this time around you get DRM-free eBooks in the form of the Humble eBook Bundle II. The eBooks featured in the pay-what-you-want bundle are Little Brother by Cory Doctorow, Boneshaker by Cherie Priest, Spin by Robert Charles Wilson, and Shards of Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold.
As usual, paying over the average gets you some more things—The Last Unicorn Deluxe Edition by Peter Beagle, and Just a Geek by Wil Wheaton. At the time of publishing, the average price stands at $9.40 (around Rs 566).
The books are available in a variety of formats, including PDF, MOBI and ePub, essentially making them platform agnostic since these formats can be read either on a computer or on mobile devices via eBook readers.
The book Little Brother revolves around a high school hacker called Marcus and his friends, who get caught up in a terrorist attack in San Francisco. After being arrested and released, they find the Department of Homeland Security is treating every citizen like a suspect. To counter this, Marcus and his friends end up launching an attack on the department.
The new Humble Bundle has six eBooks up for grabs
Boneshaker revolves around Ezekiel Blue, son of the inventor who created the titular Boneshaker—a drill that accidentally releases a horrific gas in Seattle, turning people into zombies and shutting down cities. Ezekiel escapes to Seattle to prove his father's innocence, and only his mother can bring him back.
Spin follows the characters Tyler, Jason and Diane as they witness the disappearance of stars one night. A "spin membrane" has been placed around the Earth, which distorts the natural ebb and flow of time. The book focuses on how the children grow up with "The Spin" and deal with it in their own way.
Shards of Honor is the first book in the Vorkosigan Saga. It revolves around survey commander Cordelia Naismith from Beta Colony and the Barrayarans, a ruthless and soulless race. However, her perception of them changes when she meets Captain Vorkosigan of Barrayar because of his honourable behaviour towards her and her injured shipmates.
As is usual with Humble Bundles, you can pay whatever price you want and can then decide what cut of the money goes where—the authors, the folks at Humble Bundle, or a charity of your choice (Electronic Freedom Foundation, the Science Fiction Writers Association or Child's Play). The bundle will be up for grabs for 13 more days, until July 18.
