New D-Wave quantum computer performs a thousand times better than the previous generation

D-Wave Systems announced a new quantum computing system with a 2000 qubit processor. The announcement was made at the inaugural conference for users of the quantum computing systems by D-Wave. The new system doubles the processing power over the previous generation D-Wave 2X, which had a 1000 qubit processor. There are new control features that allow the computer operators to fine tune the quantum computing process as per their requirements. This allows the new computing system to deliver a performance that is a thousand times better than the previous generation D-Wave 2X quantum computing system. Vern Brownell, the CEO of D-Wave said, “Our focus is on delivering quantum technology for customers in the real world. As we scale our processors, we’re adding features and capabilities that give users new ways to solve problems. These new features can enable machine learning applications that we believe are not available on classical systems. We are also developing software tools and training the first generation of quantum programmers, which will push forward the development of practical commercial applications for quantum systems.” The new system allows for faster solving of more complex problems. It extends the lead that D-Wave systems has in the industry, over other quantum computing systems manufacturers. D-Wave is the world’s first quantum computing company, founded in 1999. Till the announcement of the new system, the D-Wave 2X was the most advanced quantum computer in the world.
