With motion control being all the rage in gaming, many studios have been trying their hand at it. Mad Genius Controllers has been working on its own version of a motion-control device for gaming and has released a video that gives us a look at how it works:

What’s interesting about the concept is that it doesn’t use traditional methods of tracking motion. Instead of using cameras or accelerometers and gyroscopes, it uses its own type of tracking method that can track the controller in 3D space.

The game – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – hasn’t been coded to work with motion controls in any way. The motion controls worked by remapping certain motions to do what button presses would.

For example, thrusting your right hand forward when the controller is split in two will make your character attack with what is in their right hand. Similarly, if a shield is equipped, raising the left-handed side of the controller will make the in-game character raise their shield.

According to the official description, the motion controls can be added to any game, even if the game wasn’t written for motion controller. It works with any gaming system, including the Xbox, the Xbox 360, the PS1, PS2, PS3, Wii or even PC.

Mad Genius Controllers claims that the lag seen in the video is not the controller’s fault in any way. It seems to be the way that Skyrim was programmed. Hitting the attack button would supposedly create the same amount of delay.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns.
