New Apps Released For The 5800 XpressMusic

For Nokia 5800 fans who were wondering when the company would release applications for the touchscreen handset, the wait is over. Nokia has released six new applications for the handset that include –

WaveSecure
It not only helps you track the lost phone but also ensures full security of the data on the device by allowing you to track the lost/stolen device via Buddy Notification or over the Internet.
Remotely Lock the lost/stolen device, so that nobody can misuse the device and data. Backups of your data including Contacts, SMSs, Calendar Entries and Call Logs can be created and users can also erase the data on the stolen device to avoid misuse. You can also be able to restore the data back onto your device once you find it or even restore it on a new device which has WaveSecure installed.

SMS Timer
SMS Timer allows you to schedule SMS/MMS messages to be sent on a future date and time. The application functions exactly like the standard messaging application allowing you to define multiple recipients. Users would be able to schedule messages to go out a designated date and time. It will also enable regularly checking of your bank account balance by scheduling periodic information request messages.

Smart Guard
Smart Guard protects all your private information (e.g. Messages, Contacts, Videos, Pictures etc.) both on the phone’s internal memory and on the memory card with a password. It will allow users to keep business information or secrets hidden in the best manner and avoid casual browsing on the phone.

The list also has a few touchscreen games available –

Marble Maze
Marble Maze is a labyrinth game that utilizes the orientation sensor built inside the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. In this game you control a ball in a labyrinth by tilting the device in your hands and lead the ball into a goal. Currently there are 40 different labyrinths to solve, and 3 different types of balls viz. a metal ball, a rubber ball, and a super ping-pong ball. In this super addictive game you can advance from simple to the more difficult levels requiring skill, accuracy, and determination to hit the high scores.

Touch Card Match
This version of the classic ‘Card Memory’ game comes with an audio visual interface with engaging graphics and touch control. In the first of three levels you have 20 cards to match and set the pace. You can then challenge yourself with 40 cards in the 2nd and move up to 60 cards in the last. The game play is deceptively simple. You just need to tap on the face down cards and turn them over to see the visual on the face before it hides itself in seconds. Go on to find a similar visual under another card and, voila! You score a point if the visuals match.

Touch Maneuver
‘Touch Maneuver’, the virtual version of the classic ‘Don’t touch the wire game’ involves users having to drag their fingers across the screen without touching any of the other icons displayed.

Although the games are not really very graphically attractive, I’m hoping the N97 with N-Gage will encourage Nokia to speed up mobile game development for the 5800 XpressMusic as well. I downloaded the set up files and tried installing them on the device I was given for testing, however I consistently got an error stating – Certificate Expired. Hopefully you won’t have the same issues.
