Netflix has just announced its largest-ever multi-year deal for original content with Dreamworks Animation. According to the official release, the company has said that the partnership will provide over 300 hours of new programming. The new programming will extend not only to earlier released movies and franchises but for future releases as well. Dreamworks is best known for releases like Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar and Shrek among others.
What is Netflix and how does this deal affect us, you might ask. First off, Netflix is a video-streaming service that offers users a mixture of movies and television shows on-demand on its website for a monthly fee. While it is not available in India, the service is available in the United States, North and South America, the Caribbean, United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.
The second question is more pertinent. Dreamworks has some of the most loved animated characters right now, and its foray into television programming will ensure that fans will get a whole lot more of their favourite characters, on a more regular basis.

The company has announced that the original programming will be available in all the areas that it currently operates in. The first original series following this partnership will come on-air next year, following a previously announced spin-off for Dreamworks’ upcoming movie Turbo. The show, titled Turbo F.A.S.T, will be seen in December.
Netflix will include a range of new content from a range of characters including Casper, Fat Albert and Where’s Waldo. This is following Dreamworks’ purchase of Classic Media. Specific details about the new series, which will be seen in the near future, was not given by Netflix though.
In addition to its new programming, Netflix will also look at showcasing several Dreamworks Animation features as part of its premium pay TV window deal, with titles like The Croods, Sherman, Mr. Peabody and the soon-to-be released Turbo being included on the streaming service.
