The past few weeks, Google's Nest has been hitting headlines for all wrong reasons. The new CEO Marwan Fawaz who has replaced Tony Fadell, wrote a memo ensuring employees that Nest isn't going to shut shop. The memo was out leaked to the press, but that wasn't probably the complete memo.
A new report by Tech Insider now reveals that the letter also mentioned products that Nest was working on. So, the company is working on an outdoor version of last year's Nest Cam. Speculation is rife that it will be launched this month as the Nest Cam was launched in June last year.
Nest Cam is a camera connected to the web allowing users to stream video from their home to mobile devices, and also ensuring home security. The outdoor version is likely to come with a similar set of features. However, the hardware could be made more robust to withstand outdoor weather conditions. An outdoor Nest Cam isn't the only rumoured device. The rumour has it that Nest also plans to bring more colour options for its thermostat.
Besides, a smart home hub also has been in news for sometime, of course marred with delays, we still don't know when these devices will be out. In the past few months, Alphabet’s pet project, Nest, has been marred with not-so-great reports accusing the chief, Fadell of being a tyrant. The founder of Dropcam, the company acquired by Nest, Greg Duffy, called the selling of Dropcam a big mistake and clearly stated the not-so-friendly conditions created by Fadell. It was Fadell’s blame-game remarks that compelled the ex-Dropcam chief to come out in support of his ex-employees. There are also reports about a Nest employee fired for posting memes on Facebook who has reportedly filed case against Nest and Google.
