**Watch advertisements on your phone** and we will pay you for it. That’s exactly how Micromax flagged off 2014. It launched the aptly named service MAd and even churned out a smartphone with the same name. So, how many ads does one have to watch? How will the company pay users for watching these ads? If several such questions are lingering on your minds, here are all the answers. Compatibility For starters, one would requires the Micromax Advertising Application or MAd app to get started. Currently, the app is preloaded only on the **Canvas MAd** (launched earlier this month) and Micromax has been tight lipped about its availability on other Canvas smartphones. The MAd app is supported by all GSM telecom operators and works with both prepaid and postpaid users. Now, we can’t really call the app novel or one of its kinds, as we’ve seen Tata Docomo launch a similar service call **GetEasyTalktime or GET** that offers free minutes everyday for watching advertisements. Considering GET supports most platforms including Android, Symbian, BlackBerry and even entry-level Java-based phones, we think Micromax should soon launch the MAd app for other handsets, if not other platforms. How it works Basically, users earn points for viewing advertisements or video previews that appear each time they make a call. The user will be awarded points only after viewing the complete advertisement and then making a successful call to any local or national 10 or 11-digit number. Besides, users can also chooses to view advertisements or previews from inside the application. On watching videos within the app, users will be entitled to points only after viewing the complete video. The offers include Free Mobile Recharge, a limited period offer that provides free recharge. It is completely dependent on online recharge services provided by telecom operators which are subject to change as per rules and regulations with respect to tax or levies governed by DoT / TRAI. The recharge credit received in prepaid mobile user’s account will be the amount minus the applicable taxes as is standard. For instance, the prepaid mobile user redeeming Rs 10 recharge will receive a net credit of Rs. 7.90 in his account. In case of a postpaid user, the advance payment of the offer amount will be deposited in customer’s account. For instance, the postpaid mobile user redeeming Rs 10 will get Rs 10 credited to their postpaid account. Currently, users will have to buy the Canvas MAd smartphone to start using the service. Priced at Rs 8,490, the MAd smartphone sports a 4.5-inch FWVGA display (854×480). On the camera front, it gets a 5-megapixel camera on the front and rear, which can shoot 720p videos. It’s powered by a Broadcom BCM23550 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 512MB of RAM and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Its 4GB of storage onboard can be expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card. The battery is 1800 mAh, which could prove to be less than ample, if one is watching ads most of the time. Connectivity options include Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi, and 3G connectivity.
