MWC 2017: Sony could announce five new Xperia smartphones at the event

Last week we saw Sony sending out invites for a press event which is scheduled for 27 February at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. A new leak now points out that the Japanese company will announce five new Xperia smartphones. The source of the rumour isn’t very reliable but it does throw some light on what Sony could offer as the upcoming event. Having said that it’s possible that all the info here might just be made up, so don’t keep your hopes up. Sony’s upcoming flagship, which could include a 5.5-inch 4K display, has the codename Yoshino. It will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset with 4GB or even 6GB of RAM along with the new Sony IMX400 camera sensor. Then there is the Sony BlancBright which will have the same display, only with a QHD resolution. It could be powered by a Snapdragon 653 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and the same IMX400 camera sensor. Moving down the line, the Sony Keyaki (Zelkova) will have a 5.2-inch Full HD panel, MediaTek’s Helio P20 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a 23MP rear and 16MP front camera setup. Lastly there are a couple of budget offerings, the Sony Hinoki (Cypress), with a 5-inch HD display, MediaTek Helio P20 chip, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, 16MP rear and 8MP front cameras. Lastly the Sony Mineo will also be a budget offering although there isn’t any info except an alleged price of $350 (Rs 23,800 approx). Sony has been facing a tough time in the mobile department and constantly trying to gain some glory. It could very well run out of business if it doesn’t manage to get its sales numbers up for which it needs to improve its pricing strategy.
