MWC 2011: Sony Ericsson Adds the Play, Neo and Pro to its Xperia Lineup

MWC 2011: Sony Ericsson Adds the Play, Neo and Pro to its Xperia Lineup

We’ve known for a while now about Sony Ericsson’s intentions to launch some new Xperia phones at the Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona. Predictably, the keynote that happened last night did end up showing off three new phones.

Xperia Play
First up is the Xperia Play aka the PlayStation Phone aka the World’s Worst Kept Secret. The phone is the first PlayStation Certified device and will be releasing with around 50 launch titles, some of which will come preloaded with the device.

Are you ready to play?

The Xperia Play is expected to come out in March or April with the following specs:

  • 1 GHz Scorpion ARMv7 CPU
  • Adreno 205 GPU
  • 4-inch capacitive multi-touchscreen at a resolution of 480x854
  • Slide-out controls
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 5 Megapixel Camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • micro-USB port
  • 8GB microSD card, expandable to 32GB
  • 1,500mAh battery

Xperia Neo
Second is the Xperia Neo aka Halon aka Vivaz 2. The phone underwent quite a few name changes during its stay in the rumour mill, but it’s now official.

  • 3.7-inch Reality Display with 480x854 resolution
  • 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon CPU
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 8 Megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 8GB MicroSD, expandable up to 32 GB

Xperia Pro
The Xperia Pro has a slide-out QWERTY keypad and will come bundled with an Office document editor.

Slide-out QWERTY Goodness

Take a look at the specs:

  • 3.7-inch Reality Display at a resolution of 480x854
  • 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon CPU
  • Slide-out four-row QWERTY keypad
  • Possibly an 8 megapixel camera
  • HDMI Port
  • 8GB MicroSD, expandable to 32GB.

All three phones are expected to come out in the next couple of months, and with the Xperia Arc already waiting on the wings, this looks like a pretty good time for Sony Ericsson.
