mRUPEE now available on IRCTC as a payment option

mRUPEE, a subsidiary of Tata Teleservices, has announced that it has tied up with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), India’s largest e-commerce company, to provide an additional payment gateway. Indian Railways carries more than 23 million passengers a day and the association will allow users one-tap payments for rail ticket bookings via mRUPEE wallet for a significant number of travellers. “Today, mobile services have fast evolved beyond telephone calls and voice messages to take centre stage in an increasingly connected world. Our partnership with IRCTC adds to the tremendous reach of mRUPEE’s market. We’re excited that these kinds of meaningful partnerships are helping to not only give our customers the ease of quick and convenient booking, but also give a thrust to the government’s mandate of enhancing wider adoption of digital money in India. Through this service, we aim at delivering future ready infrastructure that not merely meets today’s expectations, but those of tomorrow,” said Pradeep K Sampath, Chief Operating Officer for mRUPEE. mRUPEE has recently tied up with SmartD, a lifestyle management platform, which helps consumers in Chennai to explore healthy and affordable food every day. Also, mRUPEE had earlier announced its partnership with ICICI Bank to launch a recharge facility for Delhi Metro cards. MMPL is a subsidiary of Tata Teleservices Limited. One of their flagship products is a Semi Closed Wallet under the brand name mRUPEE. They are present in 25 locations across the country with over 6,000 retail outlets and also cover mobile technologies, thus serving the financial needs of consumers through their retail and mobile networks. MMPL also launched the Open Loop prepaid, VISA powered, card in partnership with RBL Bank (Ratnakar Bank). By obtaining a PaySmart card, mRUPEE customers are able to withdraw money from VISA licensed ATMs and also pay for goods and services at all merchants that accept VISA Debit/Credit cards nationally.
