Movielink will allegedly allow users to transfer downloaded movies from the site onto DVDs. The site has already purchased DVD-burning software from sonic solution to enable users to burn off the movies, but it comes with a different set of Digital Rights Management (DRM) protection to prevent making more than a certain number of copies. Although Movielink has not made an official announcement yet, speculations about the move have been doing the rounds.
The concept of allowing movies to be written onto DVDs is a little difficult to digest because the movie studios who've sold content to the sites can't be too happy about that. Afterall, all studios who have tied up with websites have gone out of their way to form elaborate DRM policies to prevent burning of their movies onto CDs and DVDs. While this may, in all likelyhood be just a rumor, news of Movielink buying the DVD burning software has caused a quite a stir among internet users. Read more here.
