Motorola to let buyers pick colour and engrave messages on Moto X

Details about Motorola’s upcoming smartphone, dubbed the Moto X, have been revealed. ABC News cites unnamed sources stating that the smartphone will be highly customisable before purchasing. On a website, buyers can pick what colour they want for their smartphone, as well as engrave a message on the back of the handset.

The smartphone will be running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, which is currently the latest version of the operating system (not counting the leaked 4.3 build). The handset is currently being tested by carriers in the US, but the smartphone will also be available through a website.

According to earlier speculation and leaks, the Moto X will not feature top of the line hardware, instead will compete with the mid-rangers in the market currently. It will have a Qualcomm MSM8960 Pro dual-core processor, clocked at 1.7GHz. This may not be able to go toe-to-toe with the quad-core CPUs of flagships today, but we are hoping there’s some killer optimisation to make software run smoothly.

The leaks also mention that the device will have a 720p display, but there’s no mention of the screen size. The X phone will have a 10 megapixel camera on the back, which will be accompanied by a 2 megapixel shooter on the front. In addition, the phone is said to be carrying 2GB of RAM and internal storage is expected to be 16GB, with no mention of a possible microSD card slot.

Motorola just recently kicked off the ad campaign for the Moto X. The company also revealed that it will be manufacturing the device completely in the US. “What we are doing which is very different is assembling [Moto X smartphones] here in the U.S. in our assembly plant in Fort Worth, Texas,” Brian Wallace, Motorola’s Vice President of Global Brand and Product Marketing, said. “What better time than July 4th to come with a message like that?”

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
