Motorola finally announced the much anticipated Moto X smartphone yesterday. But UK-based users who may have been eagerly following the host of rumours, leaks and speculation will not really benefit from the announcement. That is because Motorola may not plan to release the smartphone in that region.
According to Pocket-lint , the company has instead said that the Moto X is the first in a series, a “family of devices”. To that end, the company has said that other products that will carry the same branding are being planned for a more global release later down the line. A quick recap shows that the Moto X comes with a 4.7-inch screen, a dual-core processor and a heavily customisable body .
While talking about this in the source report, a UK spokesperson said, “It doesn’t mean that Europe is not a key priority for Motorola. Essentially, the Moto X is the first device in a new product portfolio, basically a new family of devices.”

The Moto X is not going to be launched in the UK market
Because of its introductory nature, the Moto X has been able to generate a lot of buzz in many markets. But the spokesperson quickly stated that every market is equally important to the company. Rationalising this, the company said, “Because it is the first one, the Moto X has had a real buzz around it, but the US launch is not about the US being Motorola’s priority at all, there are devices coming to Europe. We can’t share what they are as of yet, but they are from the same family. They are cool and they are exciting and there is a lot in Europe coming up.”
The statement seems a bit ambiguous, as does the company’s stance of not releasing the smartphone in the UK market. According to eMarketer , by the end of 2013, the number of total smartphone users in the country will hit 30.9 million. This represents over 48 percent of the total population, a considerable market that the company may be missing out on.
There has not been any official announcement from the company about the new devices that might be announced in the UK. A time frame for the announcements has also not been revealed. It can be hoped that the company will come around to address this market soon, though.
