New Moto X and Moto G to be the first to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update

2014 versions of the Motorola Moto G and Moto X might be the first ones to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. In fact, the latest Moto G and the Moto X are expected to get the update even before Nexus line, according to Android Police. Of course, the only exceptions to this will be the Nexus 6 smartphone and the Nexus 9 tablet, which will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

New Moto X and Moto G devices can enjoy the new Android 5.0 features, such as the Material Design interface, updated camera and improved security, while still being able to use Motorola's own services such as Motorola Alert, Migrate and Connect.

Motorola has posted the release notes for both the Moto X and Moto G devices on its website and some lucky owners have already got the update. According to Ars Technica, “The very first Moto X variant getting the update is the ‘Pure Edition’ — an unlocked version of the phone, and for right now it’s going out to people who signed up for the ‘soak test’ — a limited rollout in preparation of a wider release.”

In order to complete the download, Moto X and Moto G device owners will need to install this update by connecting to a Wi-Fi network with at least 50% of battery life. After receiving a notification of the update, users have to select 'Yes, I’m in' and click 'Install now' after downloading the update. Once installed, the phones will be updated with 22.11.6.

While the Moto X and the Moto G will be some of the first devices to get the latest Android OS, other manufactures have also announced the same for their devices. To find out if your phone is eligible, check out the list of devices that are confirmed to get the update.
