The much-awaited Moto X was finally launched yesterday. While the buzz around the phone is considerable, many users have been wondering about the retail price tag that the new device will sport. Android Community has now reported that the full outright off-contract price of the device will start at $575 (Rs 35,130 approx).
The company had earlier announced that it would offer users the 16GB variant of the smartphone for $199 (Rs 12,150 approx) and the 32GB variant for $249 (Rs 15,210 approx). Both models were being offered with a 2-year contract, though. Under contract, all the customisatons that Motorola is offering will be rolled out for free, but was initially available only from AT&T.
AT&T, while talking to the source, has confirmed that it will be offering the 16GB variant for $575 if bought outright from the carrier. The 32GB model will set users back $629 (Rs 38,430 approx). The outright price is definitely a steep one, considering that more powerful, bigger, full HD devices like the HTC One and Galaxy S4 come with a slightly higher price tag.
The Moto X retail price has now been revealed at a whopping $575
And the list doesn’t end there. The completely unlocked and stock LG Nexus 4 comes for approximately Rs 15,990 approx and Rs 18,990 for the 8GB and 16GB models respectively, when bought directly from Google. And the smartphone comes with a similar 4.7-inch 720p display, but gives a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC as opposed to the S4 Pro dual-core processor being featured in the Moto X. it should be noted, though, that the Nexus 4 came with a much steeper price tag when bought outright from carriers, as opposed to being bought from Google’s Play Store. Thus, there is still hope that a cheaper Moto X may be seen soon.
Motorola has definitely been able to hit all the right check boxes till now, barring one, which is the price. While the $199 and $249 price tags on contract seem a good deal, the outright price may be a tad much for most users. While there is talk of a cheaper Moto X model being worked on, only time can tell how the current Moto X will fare when pitted against the stiff competition in the smartphone market.
