Motorola has finally announced the much-awaited Moto X smartphone, which has been in the news for quite a while. The company has announced that the Moto X will be set to launch in late August or early September and will come with a price tag of $199 (Rs 12,020 approx) with a two-year contract.
The Moto X has 4.7-inch screen that sports a 720p AMOLED Display. Added in is Touchless Control via Google Now integration as well as multiple customisation options, and pretty unique camera controls. The Moto X is customisable in 504 ways, so there’s a lot to chose from before those interested make a buying choice. There are two options for the front and numerous for the back panel, including two made out of wood.
Moto X’s looks can be heavily customised by users
It should be noted that the Moto X is the first phone where the search giant has control over both the hardware and the software, which will give the company greater control over the end user experience. The phone will come with Android 4.2.2 out-of-the-box, which is intriguing, because the latest Android 4.3 OS rolled out last week.
Moto X can also pull off the business look
The Moto X will not have a software overlay like most other Android smartphones, but there are some Motorola-created apps which seemingly add to the software experience. The company is releasing a Google Play Edition later in the year, though, for users who prefer a truly stock Android experience.
The smartphone will come with the Motorola X8 Computing System, which is based on the 1.7 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC. In addition to the dual-core CPU, the quad-core Adreno 320 GPU, there are two custom processors - one to handle natural language and the other for contextual computing. The company is also strapping in 2GB of RAM, as well as 16GB or 32GB of internal storage.
A few of the different colours available at launch
The 10 megapixel rear camera of the the Moto X comes with a unique ‘Quick Capture’ camera functionality, which will let users open the camera app with three flicks of the wrist. Once the camera app is open, users can take a picture by touching anywhere on the screen. Google says the 2,200mAh battery will give up to 24 hours of battery life, but we’ll have to wait to see the real picture.
