If the Motorola Moto X has one USP that appeals most to the trendy user base, it’s the fact that you can customise it to match your style and personality. However, if you don’t really have a good hand with colours and designs or are just plain lazy, Motorola will help you design your own Moto X using your Facebook pictures.
Say hello to Motorola’s Moto Match application on Facebook that will present to you a unique smartphone colour chosen to look like it has been co-ordinated with your Facebook photos. The colour choosing tool does fairly well with your Facebook photos and actually suggests interesting themes instead of picking the most used colour from the picture and sticking it to the phone.
Custom colours for every photo
You can browse through all your albums and select your favourite images to get the Moto Maker to suggest colours and names for your custom design. Once you’ve fiddled with combinations and names, you can head on to finishing the process on Motorola’s website to have the phone sent right to your door.
Needless to say, you can only avail of this custom Moto Maker app if you’re in the US. Even in the US, the offer is currently available only to AT&T customers with support for Verizon and Sprint coming soon. “We wanted to provide [customers] with the opportunity to design a smartphone that is really theirs. It expresses their individual style. It expresses what they love, so they can show that off to the world,” Jennifer Henry, Director of Global Marketing and Communication at Motorola, told Mashable about this tool.
The custom Moto Maker tool was first shown off last month. The tool allowed users to choose from a handful of colours with funky names like Turquoise Blue. The colour personalisation wrapped its way around even to the volume rocker, accents around the camera lens and power button.
Colours matched to complement the image
With the Facebook personalisation tool coming into play, it is bound to push up the number of custom designed Moto X devices up. The tool itself is pretty cool and while most people outside the US will not be able to make use of it to buy a custom Moto X, the Facebook app will see a lot of hits from users just wanting to see what suggestions they get. Here’s an example of Facebook marketing done right.
