Moto 360 in gold edition spotted, could be out soon: report

Moto 360, the smart watch from Motorola that is currently only available on Flipkart for Rs 17,999, could soon be getting a gold variant, according to reports. The watch is currently available only in black and white and is stocks are currently awaited on Flipkart. Android Police  said however, that it had spotted a gold rimmed Moto 360 during one of the teaser images that it shared for five new watch faces. Check out Motorola’s images on their official blog here. If you click for more images, you’ll notice that a ‘champagne gold’ version of the Motorola Moto 360 is clearly part of the list of released images. Android Police asked Motorola for a comment on the image and the company had this to say, “Although we can’t comment on gold specifically, we’re always exploring new materials and we intend to provide Moto 360 in a selection of styles in the future.” It is an odd reply, given that two of the images shared clearly showcase a gold version of the watch. While the gold version might be a welcome addition, not all user feedback on the Moto360 as been positive. As another report from Android Police points out, the LCD panel screen in the watch is facing an issue of “image persistence.” Image Persistence is basically what happens in an LCD screen when the liquid crystals stay in one position and it affects the colour degree. While this is usually temporary, this is often seen as the equivalent of ‘screen-burn’ on LCDs. (Read more here.  ) The report doesn’t specify how widespread the Moto 360 image persistence issue is. As far as specifications of the Moto 360 go, it runs on Google’s Android Wear, which has been especially crafted for smartwatches and offers compatibility with devices running Android 4.3 and higher. The highlight of the device is its circular display, which is a 1.56-inch-screen with Backlit display and comes with a 320 x 290 resolution that goes up to 205ppi. It also gets a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Moto 360 is powered by the TI OMAP 3 processor coupled with 512MB RAM. It also gets 4GB internal memory. For tracking activities, it is fitted with a pedometer and optical heart rate monitor (PPG). The IP67-certified Moto 360 is water-resistant and also supports wireless charging. The support for voice control makes it easy to get things done, even when your hands are full. Users can send texts, set a reminder, check the weather, and even ask for directions by saying ‘Ok Google’.
