More BlackBerry price reductions on the horizon for India

BlackBerry smartphones which have already seen a 26 percent drop in prices, may be cut even further, as the company looks to strengthen its position in the Indian market.

More BlackBerry price reductions on the horizon for India

BlackBerry smartphones in India may see a further reduction in prices, as the company looks to increase its market share in the country’s fast growing mobile phone sector, according to this Times of India report.

Research in Motion (RIM), the company that manufactures BlackBerry phones have already reduced the prices of handsets by up to 26 percent in India, with an entry level Curve model now costing Rs 8,999.

Speaking to the _Times of India,_MD of RIM India, Sunil Dutt, said that the company was expecting a sales boost of between 25 - 30 percent with the reduction in prices, and added that more price cuts could not be ruled out as the brand gets the benefit of economies of scale through increased sales.

“The objective is to reach out to more consumers and, therefore, make our devices affordable for both the consumer segment as well as for our enterprise customers,” he told the newspaper.

Dutt had also said that the companies global worries did not impact the India operations, one of the best for RIM. “We are increasing our investment on the brand, distribution, products and on people here,” he said.
