Media conglomerate, Zee Group is all set to launch a digital public mobile radio trunking service in Bangalore, in collaboration with Motorola. The service will allow users to communicate with each other using digital walkie- talkie handsets sets, which look like mobile phones and allow broadband access. Moreover, these digital handsets facilitate conversations within the user group free of charge and have a range of over 50 km, which means they can be used anywhere in a city.
An important feature of the service is that calls can be made to and received from other networks as well, provided there is an interconnect agreement with telecom operators, as in the case of mobile phone service providers. Also, unlike their analogue counterparts, the digital handsets will facilitate private conversations within the group.
